Dance is a discipline that we put to the test the physical and the psyche of the dancers. To prove this, a team of U.S. researchers at the University of Washington has kept under observation for eight months, members of Seattle's Pacific Northwest Ballet Company, discovering that in this period 61% of the dancers has suffered at least one injury. This is a percentage similar to that seen in football players and champions of wrestling, two sports pretty intense and traumatic.
Moreover in a study for a year of 170 dancers (Soetens et al., Eur College of Sport Science, 2004) it was observed that the majority of injuries in dance for professionals and is a predominantly chronic (wear) rather than acute (traumatic). In addition, the majority of accidents concerns the soft tissues: muscles, tendons and fascia.
is worth reflecting on these data. Often the dance prevention injuries and their treatment are overlooked or approached in an approximate by DIY. "
Relying on a professional medical team may instead be a rational solution, taking into account the needs of those who dance to maintain high levels of mental and physical performance for extended periods during the year, if not in an entire career.
